Some from Facebook, others actually occurring in real life...

For those of you who do FB, you know about my post regarding the latest trend in old fart drivers...stopping short 4 car lengths behind the next vehicle in front of them at a stop light. Sitting there for 10-15 seconds or so, then creeping forward another couple car lengths...but still a couple car lengths behind the next vehicle. Sit there for another few seconds...then creep forward a little more. Is AARP teaching them this?

An old Jr. High friend posts on FB that she's at the car wash, has already sat there 50 minutes, and there are still 3 cars in front of her. Ummm....Kelly...garage? Bucket? Soap? Rag or big sponge? 20 minutes tops for your ES300? I just washed the Jeep (a WHOLE lot bigger than that Lexus!) in 20 minutes, including the full wheel treatment. Guess she doesn't do that "menial" work any more....

My wonderful niece Brooke posts a pic on FB of the Halloween goodies she's baked (which look really good!), I notice a KitchenAid stand mixer base in the background. We have one, it's black, as all of our small kitchen appliances are black...it's called a "decor", a motif. Her's? Pink...phuckin pink! Ummm...Brooke, are all your appliances pink? Or is it the Rachel Ray "42 different colors in the same phuckin kitchen" house of design? She's 31 and a lawyer, go figure...

This morn, coming back from the store on 50, coming up to the light at the hospital, and way ahead stopped at the light I see the unmistakable back end of an 80s vintage Mercedes SL convertable. I get closer, say to self, "Is it a 380 (the dog of the bunch, entry level), the garden variety 450, or the coveted 560?" Get close...it's a 560! 1987 (her tag was SADIE 87), same year as my Max! Pristine condition, with an older woman driving, top down. Wanted to pass her and give her a thumbs up and a grin...but she got on the gas! 3 stoplights, 3 times on the gas!! Loved it, she drove the car the way it was meant to be driven!

That's all for this week, maybe more next...

I am starting to notice the elderly missing the signals. Their response time is very slow.
I really hope one doesn't get plowed.

Here is my 1980 450Sl
She just broke 100,000 miles couple months ago
We go out on PCH and open her up

SUUWWWEEEETTTT!!! Beauty 450 Bryan, 1980, same year as my old love, my Scirocco. No offense on the "garden variety" call out, but with the 5.6L under the hood, the SL could absolutely launch at a stoplight... :1121_wink:

Oh, and at a 100K, she's only got 900K more to go... :605_thumbs_up:

Yes.
Mine is only a 4.5 v8. She moves very well.
No offence taken

We just did NOS OEM wheels and new michelin tires.
Re-packed the leather seats.
(Had the original padding replaced and the seat cushion redone).

Very comfortable now.

She just wants to run

Saw a 560 at a Publix one day, stopped to take a look just as the owner was coming up to the car. Chatted, asked him what he paid (beautiful condition, black ext w/ the Merc darker brown int), $15.6K on ebay. Actually, considering the car, a hell of a deal.

I've worked on a few of those cars in the past, they have a following for sure but they were built when MB was the real deal

Yepper, Scott. Was kinda funny, seeing as both that 560 SL and my Max were the same year. My car, back then, is what the up and comers bought. The SL? The rich folk bought them...

That is a deal.
Out here (in CA) about twice that, all day long.
They need to be original though.
Paint, low miles, manuals, etc.
We are looking at a 560 w 15,000 original miles.
Mint car, not an issue.
50K asking price.
The right ones bring big $.

We looked high and low.
Wanted the red one with the palomino interior.
Was really had to find.
Went to Barrett Jackson in AZ.
Had some we didn't want.
Got a line on this one up in WA.
Original owner.
Used in the summers only.
We flew up and ended up with her.

We had it shipped down.
We have had many people leave notes on it.
One guy and his wife stalked us for 1/2 a day
Wanted to go to the bank and do a deal.
I ended up giving my friends number to them.
They bought a car from him.
(And finally left us alone).

Bryan, have you ever thought of swapping over wheels to the ones in these shots? https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&gl= ... Ab9ubxd9-w Those wheels, to me at least, absolutely "made" the SL.

On a side note, as beautiful of lines that the SL has/had, was not the SLC absolutely butt ugly??

When I get back to the Mainland, I will upload some shots.
Yes, I believe the SLC is the ugliest car they ever made.

On ebay, comparable SLs and SLCs...the SLC will go for half the price of the SL, if not less...

Many years back I decided to purchase a classic convertible as a long-term college investment for my youngest. Was between two cars....this Mercedes and a ''63 'Vette.

Bought the 'Vette....but didn't hold it long enough to make any appreciable money.

The red Mercedes was beautiful. But had significant rust and the interior and top were shot. The Corvette had just been restored.

I like the classic wheels you have on it now. If you have a car like that you want a driver not a garage and show queen.
