Well, Used some ring free for a few days and turned the motor over by hand. The outboard is at about 125 Psi across the board. We replaced the fuel lines, cleaned out the fuel tank and added in some fresh gas, (pre mix). We are going to do away with the oil injection. Anyway, after all the above, she started and purred like a kitty.

Sounded really solid. We removed the T top and console and started rewiring the boat. It is the original wiring from 1979. We are adding new fittings to the 2 fuel tanks and running new grounds to the tanks. We installed new vent lines and replaced all the hose clamps.

She is coming along and looking good. I ordered hydraulic steering and a new binnacle. I also ordered new throttle cables. We filled in all the old holes and chips with fiberglass. I took a sample to match the gel coat.

BTW, what is the company name of the fuel sender? I will need 2 of them.

Anyway, here are a couple of photos

This photo is really amazing. There is no rust, corrosion, or issues on this deck, from 1979.

I am up in Flagstaff AZ, dropping off Laney at NAU for her second year of college. More photos to follow later in the week.
You guys have a great weekend.

I would remove all the foam on the tank and inspect them. That is a recipe for corrosion.

Kevin, I think we are good. We drained and clean them. Then we used a Snake Camera. There is no corrosion inside or outside.
Amazingly enough, they look really good. I am having a "fuel polishing" done tomorrow. If needed we will remove them and start new.
BTW, I am really amazed of the quality and how clean this Mako is.

Had a tank polisher come by to take a look at the fuel tanks. He said they are very clean and in excellent condition.
I told him to do the "polishing" anyway. He said completely un necessary. I gave him a tip and turned the page. We are running new fuel lines and fuel filter. I am starting to run some of the wiring and we will start the reassemble. Apparently, this Mako saw little use. Most everything was the original 1979 vintage components. I am really excited on this build. Very easy and straight forward.

Yes, no kidding. I think I will donate to a worthy cause to keep the good karma going! The more we do on this boat, the more impressed I am. She is extremely solid and there is no rot of any kind. She is going to be a keeper I think.

Good deal Bry, glad things are going smoothly :605_thumbs_up:

Nice ride. One of the best early Makos.

Hi Guys! Well, I am finished with our apartments in Maui. I did a rehab on 35 units. Tired and jet lagged is an understatement.
Anyway, I hope everyone is well, I have had a friend doing some of the Mako rebuild.

I am going to take a few days off, say through the weekend. Then, I am going to finish up the Mako and splash her. I think a few more days, with some help, and she will be ready for the summer. (Unless I missed something).

I looked at her today, she is looking really good. I have not gone overboard, but she had a lot of new items installed.
I picked up a Garmin echo map 74sv Chirp system. We installed the ducer. It looks like a great system.

I just wanted to say hi, I will try to post up some photos over the weekend.

Hi Guys, Had a little time today. We went out for a maiden voyage on the Mako. Just a bay cruise for a shake down check.
All in all, very satisfied with the boat and outcome. A couple of adjustments. Boat will stall at low rpm and I think I left old gas in the reserve tank (30 gallon tank). I will have it pumped out this week and replaced with fresh fuel. It is over 6 months old.

Here are a couple of photos.
