hello and thanks for letting me in first off I live in stone mountian ga I have a 1987 170 striper with a early 70s 85hp johnson needs to repower with something thats not too heavy, something to give the boat a good balance and of course used thanks

Welcome aboard Greg!

I have the exact same 1987 170 as you. Mine is powered by a 90HP Ocean pro two stroke. This is the 60 degree V4 and it is a great power match for the hull. It's a very torquey motor so I replaced my helm with a NFB steering.

I would not hang a four stroke on the back of that boat. Way too heavy.

thanks wingtime my steering is hard to turn sometimes now what nfb system do you have I going to have get one hey what you think about a 1986 Johnson 90 hp theres one listed here

Welcome to the club! that 86 would work but that still a 30 year old motor. i would be on the look out for something in the 90s or 2000s. unless your 85hp motor is done and your just looking for something to get on the water.
