I have been wanting to upgrade my FF, yesterday I bought a Garmin 551 dv, well when I got it home I just didn't like it, transducer cable was way to short and so on, that's what I get for going cheap, so I took it back this morning and got the 6" Dragon Fly, still waiting on the flush mount kit but that should be here tomorrow.

Now I just need to find the time to install the damn thing, Full report coming soon.

Well first update, decided to go out and disconnect the old Garmin, got that done except for un screwing the transducer, start running the new transducer cable and I'm thinking this doesn't look good, so to save some cable I don't use the rigging tube (used a telescoping cane pole as a fish for this and it worked great) get the thing run up front and about 4 feet short to reach my helm, it ends right at the sink in the cabin :1898_: :1898_: :1898_:

Oh and did I mention I had the hook from a gig go into my second toe, felt the prick but was to hot sweaty and preoccupied to think about it, the line was still attached to a pole so when it walked away it ripped right out sAng_scream

Ouch. thats weird that your having cable length problems, but then again most cables are made for 20 ft center consoles. hang in there bud!

Update, went to Worst today and got an extension cable for 27 bucks, not to bad, so I get home and start to mount the transducer and oh shit, the mounting bracket for this thing won't fit the step in my hull without the ducer hanging a good inch below the boat which is not going to work.

I called my good buddy Bob, we were long over due for a talk anyway, and we talked about fabing something up, I ende up using my old Garmin bracket with some spacers and it seems ok but just ok, I'm gonna take another trip to Worst tomorrow and see what they have for other brackets, I came across this and it might work better http://www.westmarine.com/buy/lowrance- ... ustom+Link I will let you all know, oh and pics will be coming soon.

If they have one and it looks like it works I may just get it, absolutely kills me to leave a project un finished.

We shouldn't wait so long next time, and you and Molly are always welcome.

I took the Dragonfly back today, just didn't like the idea of rigging something up that might not work.

Ordered a Lowrance Elite 7 Chirp tonight so stay tuned.

Kinda sucks that you didn't get to see how the unit performed simply because of a poor design (IMO) of the transducer. Me thinks Raymarine needs to go back to the drawing board on that one. But, knowing Raymarine, that doesn't surprise me...

Bob I was looking forward to seeing how the dragon fly worked but oh well, now the Lowrance transducer, nice and low profile and I shouldn't have to get a flush mount kit or extra cable for it knock on wood.

Look at this manual, Scott...http://www.manualowl.com/m/Lowrance/Eli ... ual/412336 Shows the flushmount kit (P/N 000-10979-000) as optional. Damn that sure looks like a Garmin P/N... sCo_hmmthink

While it has nothing to do with FF performance, Garmin has the deal on flush-mounting. 3/16" hole in each corner, you can either lag screw it in or t/bolt, decorative trim pieces across the top and bottom snap in place...done. No visable fasteners, nice and clean...

Speaking of Garmin, Bob I did see that flush mount kit for the Lowrance but by the looks of it some of the hardware from my old Garmin kit will work, it just seems to be screwes spacers and wing nuts which I have.

Corey I'm glad you like yours, gives me hope.
