Have a new Lowrance 7HDS going into the boat and trying to figure out the best place to mount the transducer. Stats say that it's got a 14" draft up. I've got a stationary waterline on the back of the boat. Anyone have pictures or techniques for locating the transducer in the correct location?

Well I guess I don't have to link the photos of my install. :)

I can say the transducer location has worked out very well. The structure scan transducer location works good too but it does come out of the water at about 10knots. But that's OK since you can't use it at speed anyways.

Great information and I did see some of the pics. I'll take photos of the install process, as I am doing the sonar, radar, and fuel flow sensor this weekend. Hoping to get the boat on the water to shake it out and make sure everything is working properly.

I'd like to see the radar. I've been considering it for my Explorer. What fuel flow sensor did you go with?

Went with the Lowrance fuel flow sensor, as it hooks into the NMEA setup. I am going to have to have a plate welded into the top, as the tab isn't big enough to hold the radar. Took all day Saturday to get the materials, pull the wires and install the new depth finder, and remove the old one. Labor intensive process.

Not sure how hard it is to pull new wires on the Osprey model. The Explorer is pretty easy to pull stuuf to the cabin and helm. Still it is time consuming.

I've done worse. There are two funky bends you have to get past with the plugs. One coming out of the routing channel in the front and the other where the cables go into the console. Otherwise, very straight forward. Definitely a two person job just to have someone pulling and someone moving the cable around the bends.

I had the same issue for my radar in that there was not a plate located where I wanted to mount the antenna. The installer used a thick piece of starboard that bolted through my t-top frame and ebox to hold the unit on. The plate method would have caused me to de-rig and remove my ebox plus delays at the welders. Worked out really well and still looks great after 3 years. I also used a 6 inch strut so the radar sits off my top and I could add some forward cant to offset bow rise running on plane.

Are you going with new 4G broadband unit?

I got the 3G unit instead of the 4G. I think it will be fine for what I will do. Luckily, the welder is mobile, so he will meet me at the boat to do the work. Had to replace the canvas top anyway, so now is the time to get it done.

Good planning on the canvas top. I am wondering how my top replacement will be down the road when I need it. I am sure the 3G will serve you well. I cannot say enough on how radar changes the way you boat. I couldn't go back to not having if I tried. Post some pics when you get the job done as we'd all like to see. Good luck!
