Figured things are a bit slow right now. so lets start a discussion.

Whats your brand of choice for a gps/chartplotter? To me its like ford vs chevy vs toyota vs dodge. Whats your guys preference and why? Do you like the combo units, stand alone ect? I didnt add model but when replying put in the model you like.

i grew up with garmins, i had a garmin on my osprey, and the contender at work has dual garmins(12 inch, and 8 inch), so i lean towards garmin, BUT, i will probably go with lowrance when that time comes...

Voted already, Garmin, as your question Corey was about GPS/CPs. FF's? Furuno. Radar? Furuno. Simrad and Lowrance (same outfit now)...well, they come in a close second when it comes to all around. Don't forget Humminbird. They've become players in the offshore market...

i grew up with garmins. but my last gps/ff combo was a lowrance elite dsi. defiantly liked it, their down imaging is great for the gulf. its funny growing up hummingbird was cheap alternative to a garmin. if you couldnt afford a garmin you got one. now they are a major competitor. but humming bird has a down/side imaging that looks like an underwater camera. i havent really looked at the specs for the garmins in years, but when the time comes to get a new one ill defiantly check them out

I like Garmin for the gps, the one I have now is a stand alone plotter, I also have a Garmin sounder which is ok but just ok, I hope to upgrade that this year with maybe Furuno.

I see we have 1 vote for Raymarine. Frankly, because of their tech support, I would NEVER buy anything from them! They ALWAYS make you feel like they have something better to do than to talk to me, and I kinda know what I'm doing. Heaven forbid to hear what they sound like talking to someone who's never done interfacing before...

Top-notch tech support? Garmin and Standard-Horizon... :605_thumbs_up: :605_thumbs_up:

Coming from the general aviation side of the group Garmin was the BIG player in GPS. My first handheld aviation GPS was a Garmin. In fact I still have it. I think for a straight GPS/Chartplotter Garmin is probably king. But I since they got started in aviation they lack a few features that boaters should have. Lowrance I feel is a better choice for combo sonar/chartplotters since they started out as a sonar company. For a straight fish finder probably Furuno is top dog for quality. But of course they are usually found on bigger boats with deeper pockets.

I have had several brands other than Garmin. I now have a Garmin and seriously hate it. GPS is Ok but fishfinder/depth gauge sucks.

Should be interesting to see what the opinions are a year and a half later. I can tell you HDS is hard to beat for user friendly UI. Now that I have a HDS touch my vote is even stronger. Now with chirp out.... hmmmm lets see...

I have a Lowrance Elite with gps/ff combo and ireally like it. Want another one so i dont have to use combo view. But, with family, most of my cash goes to baseball bats, shoes, etc. I know most of yall probably know what i am talking about...

I need a chip though for better gps, any suggestions?

Having a Garmin plotter and adding the Lowrance elite 7 Chirp to the boat I still say the Garmin is a better gps comparing the two side by side, but the fish finder part of the Lowrance is top notch, had two tarpon under the boat Saturday and was absolutely amazed how they showed up and I wasn't even in down imaging mode at the time.

Raymarine A60. Bought it on clearance and it still seems a lot for what I actually use her for.
