I have some Bondo angel hair and 3m Acyrl White Glazing putty laying around and need to fix some gouges all about a 1/2 inch in diameter and about 1/8 of an inch to 1/4 deep.

Are there any products other than the above that I can match to the gelcoat like white Marine Tex or white Bondo? Doubt it but would be nice.

I have seen others try to mix and match gelcoat colors but it never works out.

This is on the topside of a 205 Osprey which seems to be whiter than hull.

Thanks

the bondo hair will work good for what your tring to do. any more than that and i wouldnt recommend it.

do you have a place near you that can make gelcoat? heres what you can do, if you have some time and patience. you can get one of those evercoat gel coat touch up kits. the ones with the different colors that you mix up your self. take some scotch tape or clear packing tape and put it on a good spot on the hull. make sure its clean and is the color you want. and then start mixing up little bits of gelcoat to get something your happy with and put it on the tape. the tape will be clear and show the oem color next to your new mixed color. this will account for the sun fading and discoloration. once you find the color your looking for take that down to the shop and have them mix you up a custom quart of it.

I just installed cup holders and have fiberglass cut outs from the leaning post and transom area to match the color.

My google searches haven't turned up anything nearby.

I did speak with a guy in Sarasota that does computer color matching but I would have to ship him the sample.

I was thinking of using Formula 27 instead of the Bondo.

Formula 27 dries white whereas he angel hair dries light green if I remember correctly.

But the angel hair is tough as nails. Hmmmm.

FGCI down in FL is a great company. They matched my Whaler and my Mako. The color match is exceptional.
I mail them a small piece and they mix and match the color. They mail the matched gelcoat to me in about a week.

Update to anyone attempting this repair.

Formula 27 looks white by itself but grey when compared to the gel coat on a 205.

I ended up mixing part of the gel coat with cabosil or silica sand or whatever they call it to use a filler.

That way you cannot see the filler under the repair if you sand too close and blend the surrounding area.

I am still in the process of trying to make the repairs invisible. My friends can't see where they are but I can.

Yesterday I brushed three layers of gel coat at different thicknesses using making tape as guide for thickness.

Gotta go home and sand.
