I haven't even opened my pie plate since I installed it. But it's nice to know if I need to get to my aft bilge pump again I'll have easy access to it.

I remember replaicing that one and the one for the fish box when I got my boat and it wasnt nice and now that I am active in fixing mine along with some other things that were neglected I need to replace all my pumps before I trot off to the 70 mile mark for grouper. I also notice you have relocated the drain for the fishbox does that work ok?

Like some folks on here I drilled a hole in the bottom of the box in the dip and put in a drain that drops directly into the bilge to empty the remaining water out. I also re-purposed the OEM outlet by enlarging the hole and putting in a macerator pump which is mounted on the port stringer near the transom. It really works great, I can wash the box and pump out any debris including the dirty water and then let the last little bit drain out the hole after I pull the plug. Pic below:

The drain was put in by a PO. It's not really a drain fitting. It's some sort of a deck fill fitting, but it does the job. However since it has a lip on it it leaves a annoying small amount of water in there. One of these days I'll change it out to a proper drain.

I have the same fish box issue. I will install a pie plate when the time comes that I need the access. In the meantime, what would be wrong with drilling a hole in that little "dip" to allow it to drain into the bilge? I figure I could drill the hole big enough to plug it if I wanted it to hold water. I need to drain and clean it because it is nasty sSc_eek

Has anyone actually used the fishbox? How well does the ice hold up?

John,
We use the fishbox offshore for large fish,it holds ice ok,there is foam sprayed on the outside. some let the rain water drain into the bilge. My setup does have a plug that I can do that if needed. It will fill up with rain water,I just pump out when it does. Not a great design, but it's what we got. Any ideas you have to improve set up would be welcome bro.

Thanks Pete. If I come up with something different I will let you know. Don't feel like getting into installing a pie plate right now. Might just drill a small hole to let the water out for now.

Oil Tank - Based on what I can see there is no way to get it out? I just wanted to check the tank for water from sitting. I am sure it is fine, but I don't see anyway to remove the tank :504_shrugging:

JD I was trying to check my oil tank for water when I repowered with the Etec. I stuck a tube down the fill hose and tried to siphon out a sample from the bottom of the tank. Well it appears there is a screen in the neck where the fill hose attaches to the tank. So that didn't work. I tried taking off the fill hose... yeah right its super stiff and not easy to get off... also that would not help since I would have to take the top off the tank. You can also take off the top of the tank where the oil comes out of the tank. To be honest I worried about getting dirt down into the tank so I left it alone.

I think the only way you can get the oil tank out is to get it over to the starboard side hatch. Doing that would probably mean removing the batteries.

Thanks Bruce. That is what I was afraid of. Just going to leave it alone and roll the dice. Considering the location, I am not too worried about water being in the tank. I have never had that problem before with an oil tank.

I took my oil tank out a few weeks ago, wasn't too bad at all, you have to remove the door and frame, then disconnect the livewell pump and it's hoses and move them out of the way. Remove the bracket that holds the tank down, unscrew the pickup on the tank, pull it out of the tank and lay it to the side in some kind of container so the oil doesn't go everywhere.

The pickup stays clean, and the tank will come right out of there.

I also had enough slack in the hoses that I could pull the pickup out of the hatch and inspect it.

Thanks Scott. I might go ahead and remove it and inspect it. It is most likely fine. The boat came with a gallon of Johnson/Evinrude synthetic oil. Is that what you guys are running in these engines? I ran the Pennzoil XLF synthetic blend in my OX66 with great results. It cut way down on the smoking and carbon buildup.

The oil tank is full so I hate not to use what I have and what the boat came with.

Those motors are not too picky on oil... I've had great luck with the Startron brand synthetic blend. The West Marine brand is the same stuff. I've even run the cheap Penzoil stuff Wally world sells now and then. I think the blends are a good choice though.
