Im about 95% sure, its going to be the Etec. The deal I found is 1k less than most with free rigging, stainless prop, 6 year warranty, and no dealer maintenance for 3 years. I still like the Merc, mainly because of weight, 20lbs less, and seems really easy to do your own maintenance, while still staying under warranty.

I have till the end of this week to make up my mind for the Etec, as this promotion ends on the 25th.

When making your decision be sure to consider the cost of running both the etec 2 stroke and Merc 4 stroke. Of course with the etec you will be burning fuel and oil whether it's 50:1 or 100:1, with the four stroke one oil change every 100 hours.

Im not going to lie..... This is a tough call for me, I've never owned a new motor before, and I want to get whats right for me, my boys and my boat. I'm still flip flopping between these 2. At least im not considering the Suki. haha.

Obviously both motors have their advantages/disadvantages. Both a quiet and good on fuel/oil I personally dont believe the yearly cost of ownership will vary that much between the two. The Merc is apporx $40 for oil/filter and it DIY, and the same price for one gallon of etec xd100 (according to dealer should last a year/100hrs) So with that, here's what I've gathered. Dam i feel like splitting hairs at this point.

The Merc is the Same, or based off the Tried and True 150hp block, Its 20lbs lighter (which I like). has easy DIY maintenance and comes with 3 year warranty standard.

The Etec, Has more torque, no scheduled maintenance for 3 years, 6 year warranty, and is currently 1k less than the merc.

Like I said, its a tough call for me. Im starting to get a head ache.

The only downside to the Etec is adding oil but since you won't be doing that often who wouldn't want more torque, longer warranty (for free) and no Maint for three years. Plus depending on where u live I think winterization is easier.

Actually I believe that is a new inline four cylinder block on the Merc. But it has been out for a couple years and Merc did not rush it to market. The Etec technology has been out for 12 years now and that is a proven V4 block so no worries there either. You do have a alternator belt on the Mercury. No belts on the Etec. I think The oil cost is a wash, of course you could run the Etec on the 50:1 oil setting and run regular TCW-3 oil at half the cost per gallon for the oil... but you will use twice as much... so that's a wash. I think just adding some oil to the tank once or twice a season is much easier than draining oil, changing the filter.. recycling the oil... and if your like me... spilling the stuff all over the place! How soon can you get a Merc? They had the Etec in stock and said 7-10 days right? Bruce has a point about the two stroke... the Etec will have more torque out of the hole than the four stroke. The Etec self winterizes with a simple special start up sequence.

The etec will use one gallon of oil for every 100 gallons of fuel. Based on your use, how gallons of fuel do you burn? That should give you an idea of your oil cost. Regarding that headache I recommend tequila shots with a beer chaser.

ceejkay, you are 100% correct, and i know it myself, that any motor is going to be a huge improvement. That old worn out 90hp served me well, and doesn't owe me a thing.

Im liking the White n Red combo. to be honest

I think you just can't beat that deal. Time to pounce on it.

Like we talked you need to think about the steering system you want. Also Fernadno asked a good question and that is about the battery cables. Not sure what size and length comes with the Etec or what they quoted you, but you probably will need bigger cables.

I would call to discuss with the seller that you want the batteries in the console and that distance requires 2 AWG cable and that should be included in the quote he provided. You'll need approximately 35 feet total and at $3 a ft that adds up quickly.

One more thing to consider....the dealer, their service department, and most importantly, attitude.

Like any other business, you have good guys with genuine interest in pleasing the customer, and at the other end of the spectrum, absolute dickwads.

Ask around, or even better, check the online reviews of each dealership.

Can't wait to see it installed! sHa-shakeshout

I did a little looking into the dealer. I know they have been around forever.. looks like over 48 years. They are a platinum certified BRP dealer. The reviews I have found have all been good with the exception of one guy.. and the dealer replied to his complaint... I think they took treated him right he is just one of those guys that will bitch at anything... also I found many reviews about they have the best deals around. They are clearly moving a good volume so they can get better prices from BRP.

Thanks guys, and already discussed moving the batteries, so were set there, but will double check its the 2AWG. So far they seem real friendly, defiantly not Dickwads hahahah. This is one hell of deal for sure, kinda hard to pass up, but Honestly, Im not 100% confident on the shop, mainly due to being pretty disorganized and a bit messy. but, Im running by the shop at lunch today to speak with Nu, the man that will be installing the motor. According to the salesmen, Nu has been with them for 20years and prior to that he worked for hydrasport, so this guy sounds like the real deal, and hopefully I get a better feel for this decision.

Beleive it or not, Im still waiting on one more quote for a Merc from a local dealer. No off switch in this brain. hahahah

They don't become a Platinum certified dealer without meeting BRP criteria which includes the following:

Authorized Evinrude dealers have to meet stringent requirements before being awarded a franchise. They include items such as monetary reserves, facilities, location, and the purchase of a minimum amount of replacement parts, supplies, special tools, and providing training for the technicians. A person does not just "get a dealership" by signing a contract.

In the US and Canada Evinrude full-line dealerships have varying degrees depending on the products sold. Mostly the categories are based on the sales volumes but other factors and minimums have to be met to achieve higher levels, such as Platinum.

Platinum dealers have to have certified techs and master-techs help with earning the rating. It also includes an onsite inspection by representatives who have to sign off on the requirements for the dealer to earn the award. They also must meet conditions concerning parts availability, training, all special tools, sufficient service areas and shop equipment, and overall having a pleasant facility. There are incentives for dealerships to strive to meet the higher levels.
