Good call Bruce, and good to know.

After speaking with Nu, the master mechanic and seeing an install he was currently working on, I must say.... That guy knows his shit. He was installing Dual 300 G2, and his work was really clean and wires were organized and neat. I feel very confident letting this guy install my motor. You can tell just from speaking with him he takes great pride in what he does.
So, Im pulling the trigger and bringing the boat to them on Saturday. Im going to have them install the new battery cables, a switch, and No Feedback steering cables as well. They wanted to see the boat to get proper measurements before giving a quote. I can respect that.

All and All I am very happy and cant wait to get this thing rolling. If all goes well, I might be back on the water 4th of July weekend

Being that it's US Independence Day maybe it's best you pick up your new Canadian outboard next week. stirthepot.gif sSig_jk sSc_hiding2

All joking aside, looking forward to seeing her with the new motor.

I can tell you most of the BRP dealers were in Wisconsin for the unavailing of the new mid size G2 Etec. They look like awesome motors but man did they gain some weight... 507 lbs for the 150HP 2.7L V6.

They'll come through for you bro. Call them Monday morning, cry, bitch and moan, go to the front of the pack.

It's a boat...at a dealership....squeaky wheel gets the oil. Been that way forever.

Yes, as Scott says above, my old Merc 2.4 had a catastrophic failure after 30 years of service. Really can't complain about that! :605_thumbs_up:

I've done a good deal of research and study and decided to go with a new Merc 200 Optimax. Reasons included:

- Weight is very similar to old Merc - some 4 strokes in the 200-250 HP range are MUCH heavier
- Controls/cables match up to old Merc - don't have to buy all new rigging - but do have to get new instruments to take advantage of the digital outputs
- I was really surprised at how many Yamahas have corrosion problems/complaints compared with Merc and/or Rude
- The new Zuki 200 4 stroke was a contender, but the 2 stroke, 6 cylinder Merc 200 runs away from the 4 stroke, 4 cylinder Zuki out of the hole and on top speed
- Dealer network and parts availability for Merc - especially compared with Zuki and Honda
- Zuki and Merc were priced about the same, but Yammie and Honda dealers wanted bigger $$$ - plus controls/accessories

Should have the new Merc installed in the next couple weeks, and I'll post some pics and data when she's on the water. Hopefully soon!

I'm looking at a new Merc Optimax 250 right now, pretty much came to the same conclusions as you, and my mechanic I've used for years and trust Is merc certified and can do the rigging and any warrantee work, but going from the Evinrude I have buy the whole deal which really adds up.

Scott what about a Etec 250 G1? It will be a direct bolt on and plug and play with your existing rigging. That will save you a bundle of time and $. If you have N2K network displays you can connect the Etec to it with a $53 kit.
