Hey gents... I'm new to the forum and spent some time searching the different posts on here. From what I've read so far, I think I'm in good hands here. So here's the deal, I bought a 225 explorer with a 200hp ficht motor on it that is an instant headache. I'm looking to get a brand new motor put on her. The questions I have are as follows:

1) what size shaft on the new motor
2) what hp? Keep it 200?
3) and of course... etec or 4 stroke?

I'm leaning heavily towards the etec, but the 4 stroke yammy is def a consideration.

Thanks in advance. And have at it!

I know bruce as a nice Etec he has that will bolt right up to what you have. Very low hours and was just serviced.

with the etec you dont have to worry about changing the rigging. that will save you a few bucks. the etec is a 2 stroke so its a little lighter as well. im more of a yamaha guy personally. but both are proven motors with very few issues. are you looking for brand new or new to you? if your looking at used yamahas tend to hold their value so its going to cost you more, plus rigging.

What year model us your Ficht motor? If it is newer than 2000 they are usually very reliable.

As mentioned a E-tec will hook right up to your existing rigging and gauges (with the exception of the new G2 E-tec)

You need a 25" shaft motor. 200 hp Etec us good power. 225-250hp would be better.

The motor I have available is a 2005 250hp with 103 hours on it. PM me if your interested in it.

Yup I remember. Haven't heard of to many of them doing that. Probably just a fluke loose connection acusing heat.

I was referring to the early Ficht issues of them blowing up were worked out by 2000 or so. 2005 was next to last year for them anyways. Reality is all new motors four stroke or two stroke have massive amounts of electronics and computer controls on them.
