OK - put a 4 stroke Yammie against a new eTec in a tugga-war... sSc_eek But did you have to sink the other boat? sCo_hmmthink Probably ruined the Yammie engine - such a waste of technology for a point that is not well-made.

Yes - a 2 stroke motor usually has more torque than a 4 stroke. Yes - the 4 stroke is usually heavier. Did we not know this before the test? Also, why not choose a boat for the test with a good splashwell that won't sink so easily when you go backward?

Sorry, but I'm not impressed...

Ten year old marketing video, and its just that marketing... Makes a great headline... Etec sinks Yamaha. Even so when it comes to outboard motors torque is king. Also keep in mind you know that... younger customers do not... they have been brainwashed into thinking "two strokes are old technology and are bad" So they have an uphill marketing battle

The twin Etecs I bought were demonstrator motors from the Miami boat show. They had two Contenders. One with the twin 250 Etecs the other with twin Verados.

They would load up a bunch customers on each boat. First the Verado boat. They would shut down one motor and try to get it up on a plane.... could not do it. Then the Etec powered boat... It would push the boat up on a plane with a single engine. Eventually they were asked by the show managers to stop it.... you see Mercury was the major show sponser and Evinrude was making them look bad.

Fast forward 12 years to the new small block G2. They rigged a 150 G2 and a 200 Yammie on a Key west.... check it out:

The weight gaps have closed with new four strokes weighing less and the G2 being a heavier than the G1.

You have to give credit to BRP for sticking with and developing such a high tech clean two stroke.

one thing i always laugh at in some of the e-tec videos is sometimes they will state "the evinrude e-tec is the only direct injected outboard" which we all know id BS. those types of videos are solely for the new to boating type people that dont have a clue. and you never see videos comparing against optimax.

OK this test by boattest.com puts it all to rest. Can't deny this was a fair test and no matter what they tried, including changing props and engine location the Yammie is simply outclassed by a lower HP two stroke motor. Single 150HP (ok 160) planing a 25' boat and pushing it to 30MPH? WOW
