I am getting my boat ready for the water. It has been covered up for the past week since I bought it & until I get all the registration information done on Boat and trailer. When I removed the cover , I smell a lot of gas fumes. Is this normal or is it a real concern?

Depends if they linger.. If the cover also covers the tank vent then the heating of the day could cause the capture of the fumes. Uncover (for a while) and do a thorough inspection with nose above and below deck. Run some water into your bilge and let it flow out the garboard drain (plug) and see if it smells like gas. Remember gas fumes are heavier than air and will sink to the lowest spot. Let us know..

oh -Do not turn on anything electrical until you know you do not have a leak.

All I can add is that your fuel vent is not under your cover, it is behind the fuel cap. I also would sniff around in bilge, and check the fuel lines, fuel filter, etc
