Anyone up for some fishing 11/8? I might have to take the whole day off for an event Saturday night, and I'd hate to waste the morning...

Carl - I am going offshore (approx 35 miles off Anna Maria) on Tuesday. Let me know if you want to pair up and do some team fishing. Two boats are always better than one.

Three even better... Wing - It's a holiday and it's not often that we will get 1ft or less 30 miles out during the winter months. Seize the day!

i personally wouldnt make any plans to run that far offshore this weekend, that approaching front is just too close. my friend was out on his 35 intrepid today and said it was starting to pick up pretty good as the day went on... also, king of the beach is this weekend so you'll have an above average number of boats out flooding the area...

I hear ya Aaron about this weekend.. I'm going offshore on Tuesday. Marine 4 cast looks solid for Monday and Tuesday so at this point the pattern looks stable. This weekend looks iffy, totally agree.

Offshore Report (Tuesday)

Well guys.. The weather report was going south Monday night so I was starting to make contingency plans for inshore but when I woke at 4am I was pleasantly surprised by a moderating offshore 4-cast with the two closest sea buoys both reporting less than 2ft seas.. So after a quick stop at Oneill's me and my buddy Deric were off. Wind was light for the 5:30 am ride out of Pass-O-Grill pass. After we got off the bar the seas were not bad with some wider period swells... Could have achieved close to a 30 mph cruise but with the quartering seas anything above 25 mph was starting to get us wet. Made my usual bait stop off my favorite shipping channel buoy and we loaded up on small jacks and an assortment of other stuff packing up the live well. We turned SW and targeted a wreck approx 26 miles off Anna Maria. We stopped 10 miles short and started trolling.. Lost one of my best Stretch 30s by a cut off and we also lost a nice Spanish right at the boat. Once we arrived at the wreck we dropped my buoy and with the strong north wind it was simple to line up my anchor. From then on we fished and did battle with some of the largest AJs I have ever encountered. We both hooked up on two and both broke our lines after 30 min fights. Caught two nurse sharks (largest I have ever seen) 10-12 feet long each and then I hooked up on the bad-boy below. It was a 30+ min fight on my heavy action Red Bone rod (new) which he broke after the 3rd guide 20 min into the fight. He would give some line up till we could just see him (prob 30ft) and then sound back down to 75-80.. This happened at least 3 times before we finally got him to the boat.. It was my personal best. I did not measure him or weigh him but the second AJ in the box was 2 inches over minimum at 32 inches and he dwarfs it. After we caught the second keeper at about 2pm we called it a day as the winds were picking up. The ride back really sucked.. 20+ mph wind and solid quartering 3 footers.. I had to stand up to see and time the waves which completely soaked me by the spray but I was so pumped from that huge AJ I was immune to the conditions... Those were the highlights but easily one of the most memorable and fun trips.. I included one with my friend Deric holding my fish as it was the best of the group showing off how big it was. Hope you enjoy the pics..

I was wondering how you did out there. I noticed the winds picking up in the afternoon. Those AJs are a blast to fight!

Between those fish and learning to throw my 10ft cast net.. I am sooo sore! If that fight went on for much longer I would have had to hand the rod off to my friend so I could take a break.. It was a solid 35+ minute tug or war! Scott, my GF has been asking me to smoke some fish as we both love smoked fish dip.. Do you have any good recipes for smoke AJ and/or the like?
