Figured it was time to make this official, as of now I'm planning on the East side of Egmont, the other guys can have the pass but something tell me they will end up with us.

Lets plan this out and make it a good one.

Anywhere around here looks good to me

I actually have that day off! So I'm in, as long as someone can vouch to give me, wife, and kid a ride if I can't get our's to 100% by then.

Kingfish ramp on the island side of the Manatee Ave bridge. Straight shot into Tampa Bay...https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=20 ... 3eec&msa=0

nice. would be a pretty quick ride from there. how are the conditions once you get into the bay there? never been in the area.

It all depends on the wind. A morning like today (pretty breezy here) would make for a rough crossing. A calm morning? Piece of cake.

cool. im fine with either. just have to convince the wife if its a little rough. i have a nice GPS but would be cool to meet someone at the ramp and cross together since ive never been in the area. looks like some shallow parts there to get out into the bay.

Be very careful approaching Egmont Key from the south! There is an area b/t Anna Maria and Egmont that at times its exposed sand and during medium to high tide its underwater. But it's ALWAYS very shallow. It's marked on most charts I've seen but I thought I would mention it. Your approach should be steering East around that area then heading back West to Egmont. Sandbars in that area are always on the move due to the extreem tidal flow above and below Egmont so give it a wide berth. See the pic below.. The crosshairs are on it. Egmont is top left and North end of Anna Maria center bottom.

Carl,

I am going to be going over with my GF and kids. You and your family are welcome to ride with me. I will likely be leaving from Maximo Park (Not a 24 hr. access ramp) which is located just north of the north end of the skyway bridge. PM me when it gets a little closer and we can work out the logistics.

All others who are not familiar with the area are welcome to follow. Maximo Park is a very nice (newly renovated) boat ramp that is actually free believe it or not. Its about 20-25 min ride to Egmont depending on route (winds determine). FT Desoto is a little closer (IF you can travel out in the Gulf) but I hate that ramp.. Always covered in sh%t and ussually very rough in the afternoon due to boat traffic and our normal prevailing winds. Anyway - Off my soap-box.

B

Pretty much the way I have taken when crossing the bay. Basiscally a NE course out of the ICW (aiming between the Skyway towers), hitting the shipping channel for some grouper, then on to Egmont or Ft. DeSoto...

man it was rough this morning, i had to haul a boat up from sarasota this am over the bridge. that was a bitch in the wind... then later had to take the contender to a ramp to put on a trailer for service. it laid down a little bit by 2

ill more than likely be on the contender so i'll have some room depending on if my family wants to go... it took me about 35 minutes to get to egmont from my work.
