Finally was able to pick her up last week. Scott Rhodes went with me initially to Brunswick, GA. to check it out. Scott and I could not make a deal with the guy the first trip, but it ended up working out. Thanks again Scott for making the first trip with me! We found out what we needed to know about the boat.

She is a one owner and in almost mint condition! She has been under a shelter her entire life. The only negative is the paint on the 225 Johnson Ocean Pro which I will re-paint during the off season. She has been sitting for a year and a half so she needs a little TLC. She does have the bimini top and full enclosure. I hope to add a hard top within the next year.

All the cushions are in excellent shape, but I am having a hard time removing the mildew from them. The bolsters do have the green Aquasport logo and are green and blue in spots. Anyone have any suggestions on what to use that won't hurt or fade out the colored parts?

Sorry I only have one picture, but will have more to come once I have time. This picture is when I picked her up.

Here is a picture of the bolsters that I have. These are not mine but what I have. They are mildewed badly near the top. Need suggestions on how to clean them.

Been looking forward to this post! It was a pleasure going down there JD, glad you got her. Fellas the boat is in great condition, nice bright gelcoat, just needs a little love.

On the vinyl I'd try some clorox water mixed with Dawn detergent, let it sit a few minutes. A mild chlorine solution shouldn't affect the colored vinyl.

Congrats JD!! sFun_crazydance

Congrats on the new vessel! :605_thumbs_up:

Regarding the mildew I have success using a mixture of white vinegar & borax. For less then $5 you can get a gallon of white vinegar and a box of borax. Lots of info on the internet regarding the vinegar/ borax solution. Good luck!

John,

Great looking boat! Welcome to the Explorer club! I'm sure your gonna enjoy her! All those gray Johnsons from the late 90's seemed to fade out REALLY bad. Check with Discontinued decals for replacement graphics. They seem to make a really nice product.

AS for the bolsters, what your probably seeing is actually pitting of the vinyl from age and UV. Publix makes a great mildew remover spray that works good. Also you CANT beat Startron's mold and mildew remover that is MADE just for this use. I used it on my boat with good success.

BTW I have made up a new set of bolsters for my 245. I'm gonna change the pattern a bit though. Once I get the pattern I like I'll be selling them since they fit the Explorer/ Osprey 225/245/250 models. They are white pleated vinyl (no green stripes) I'll post a pic when I get around to taking one!

Nando, the white vinegar and borax trick sounds neat, how much of each is used per gallon of water?

Pete, you reckon MCL would have a hardtop to fit JD's new ride?

I believe I use two parts vinegar one part borax. I mix it in a spray bottle. I found the mixture amount with Google.

Thanks guys :605_thumbs_up: The beauty of it is now I have the off season to get her like I want her.

Nando - thanks for the Borax/white vinegar suggestion. I will give that a shot and see what happens. I would assume mix the warm water and Borax first until it dissolves, then add the vinegar?

Scott - I bet Marine Connection would have the stock hard top. I bet they want a pretty penny for it and I would have to drive down there to get it. It would have to be a heck of a deal to make that trip.

Bruce - thanks for the info on the bolsters. Mine look brand new other than the mold. The Aquasport logo looks great as well as the green/blue vinyl. Even if some of the mold won't come off, I plan to keep them as good as they look.

I am taking the girls to Disney and we are leaving Sunday. Once I get back and get into the boat I will post some pictures.

Ya'll have a great time in Orlando!

Agree it would have to be a steal, but their prices on some stuff is so low its hard to believe.

May give 'ol Jake a call just to see :605_thumbs_up:

Ingredients:
– 2 tablespoons borax
– 1/4 cup vinegar
– 2 cups warm water

Mix the borax into warm water until it has completely dissolved. Add in the vinegar and put the mixture into a ordinary spray bottle. Shake to mix thoroughly.

I have also read that you can use more borax and make a paste and leave it on the area in question.

I'd be interested to hear if Marine connection has the hardtop and if so what they want for it. Of course to get one built would not be cheap. The factory hardtop was made by GG Schmidt I believe. They make some top quality stuff. Who knows maybe they still have the drawings to make a new frame for you.

JD It would be much cheaper to get one built up there where you are at. I was at MCL a few months ago and they had nothing like that at all.
