Recently purchased a 1995 Aquasport 225 Osprey. We are getting it ready to fish this upcoming summer and I was wondering what people around this website usually do for a motor support or transom saver. We live almost 4 hours away from the coast so I am concerned that over time those long trips with no support other than the hydraulics would lead to issues with the transom or hydraulic mount. We currently have a Suzuki DT225 225 HP. Ill attach some images of the back of the boat and trailer, any input is appreciated.

I normally only travel like 3 miles, so i dont use anything, curious as to what the board recommends though

Yamaha makes these PT/T tubes. The cheaper way to mimic this design is going to home depot and get PVC pipe, cut to size.

They have a support but it's not designed for trailering, they want you to buy the tubes that were mentioned

I keep motor tilted all the way down when trailering. Plenty of clearance.

i trim mine up so i can slide a rod in the highest hole and rest the motor on that. gives me enough clearance

Where we live Walmart is really the only sporting goods store within 45 mins since Gander Mountain closed the doors. I noticed they had a transom saver made by atwood.

I picked that up last night and going to check if it is even long enough this afternoon after work. The only issue I have with this style of transom saver is the fact that the rear of our trailer doesn't have a roller which is one mounting option, and there are lights on the trailer frame right where we would need to mount the mounting bracket which is the other option included in this package. When we bought the boat it just had some wood wedged up against the motor. From what I have read and understand the real benefit of a transom saver is taking some of the stress from your transom and spreading it to the trailer. So I don't see what real benefit the wood or similar would have for the transom, but I can see how it would help take some stress off the hydraulics.

I used to use a transom saver similar to that walmart one on my 200XF. With my current trailer on the 245 there is no way could use one. Also the Euro transom on the 225/245/250 models make the motor sit pretty far back. Besides with the poured composite transom I don't worry about the transom itself.

I can't tell from the pictures. If your engine is tilted down completely is there adequate space between the road and the skeg? If so, this is the optimal position for the engine to be in when trailering. If the engine must be tilted up for road clearance, the engine should rest on the trim rams.

If you do some online research you'll discover boat builders scoff at the need for a "transom saver". This is because the forces exerted on the transom during boating far exceeds those during trailering. If the engine is in the correct position when trailering, as mentioned above, a transom saver is more like a feel good product for you. And hey, I've bought many products like that. No shame.

Yes I agree that the stresses an engine under power puts on a transom far exceeds those while getting towed down the road.
