Just bought a 1969 19.1 Osprey. I posted my pics on the new member page but here is one pic. I think I got lucky on this one because the hull including the transom seem to be in good shape. Everything is original including seats, teak, railing and even the light green inside hull sides color. I'm planning to refinish everything and will use Brightside Poly. I'm planning to keep everything in the original configuration and color scheme. I'm located in the Northern Chesapeake and we have a lot of unforgiving "skinny water" around here.

Are you in B city B county or Harford county? I have a old friend who still lives on the east side. He use to guide all over that area. I lived on the west side most of the time , that was till I retired and moved to De. Fished all over the bay and it's tribes. So I know the bay fairly well. I now fish it in the lower half. I have a 72 19-6 that I run a 140 on, she handles it great. You planning on raising the transom to 25"? So I will also be watching your progress. :605_thumbs_up:

Here are some updated photos of the 69' Osprey. Got a fair amount of work done since my earlier post. I have kept everything original so far.

- Cushions have been replaced- seats are the originals except new foam and vinyl covering.
- Cleaned the teak. Only one coat of varnish. Not enough. Its coming off already.
- Refinished the outboard. Got original hood decals. The motor is an 84'
- Refinished the aluminum rail believe it or not with Rustoleum. Actually looks pretty good.
- painted the bottom and cleaned up the topsides using Myrical Cleaner from the dollar store full strength. Really ate the grime.
- Engine also had the carbs rebuilt. Engine size is well balanced- don’t need much more
- Bought a new trailer
- Replaced the windshield with new clear Plexiglas. The old green one was cracked up really bad.

Nice time machine! Boat looks sweet! However, she's not an Osprey - that name did not come into play until the 1970s. Before that, they were called "Open Fisherman" - but most folks just call your model a "Flatback"

That little 70 pushes that nice. And that's an old 70 where it was rated at the flywheel not prop.

Best engine OMC ever produced. Yamaha entered the US market by storm, and their first product? A reverse-engineered Johnson seventy, with improved carberation. Three cylinders yessir, but slightly larger displacement. The Yammie 90 horse two stroke.

If you can find either one today...especially a lake motor ....buy it.

That's interesting about Yamaha reverse engineering that motor. I can see why. That thing is an 84' and yet "knock on wood" it runs great. These old 2 cycles got a really cool sound. You can see from the 1st video that the 19.1 doesn't leave any wake. You can see the water slightly disturbed where its rolling off the chines but almost nothing in the middle. The only negative on this boat is when I hit a decent size chop it doesn't have enough length to bridge from one wave to the next so it definitely will pound. I have seen stuff go vertical off the casting deck.
